Middle and Long Distance Coach
Coach Roger Collins has been Head Coach of the Green Hope Track and Field program since the 2005-2006 school year. He also serves as assistant coach for the Cross Country program. Coach Collins spent 5 years in the Washington, DC area coaching Track and Cross Country at the middle school, high school and Junior Olympic levels. He is a certified USA Track and Field Level 1 Coach.
Coach Collins grew up and attended high school in Hanover, Pennsylvania, where he ran track at Hanover High School (specializing in the 3200, hurdles and relays). He ran Cross Country for one year at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA before transferring to The Pennsylvania State University, where he received a BA in History and a minor in Spanish.
Coach Collins' Boys' Track team won the Tri-8 Conference title in 2007 and finished 3rd in the 4A Mideast Regionals. 39 athletes from both Girls' and Boys' teams qualified for Regionals in 2007, with 14 moving on to compete in the 4A State Meet.
At the 2008 Indoor State Championships both the Boys' and Girls' teams recorded top 10 team finishes. The girls placed 10th while the boys tied for 3rd place.
In Collins' three years with the program, seven different Green Hope athletes have placed at the Outdoor State Championships, and 11 have placed at the Indoor Championships. Two athletes, Brittany Johnson and Ian Williamson, finished their high school careers as nationally-ranked competitors in their respective events.
Over the last three years, several Green Hope alumni have continued their Track and Field careers at the collegiate level, competing for programs at North Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, Furman, Radford, Western Carolina and Johns Hopkins, among others.
Coach Collins lives in Cary and enjoys travelling and following Penn State Football when he is not coaching or teaching.

Jumps and Sprints Coach
Coach "Mac" was born and raised in Central New York, growing up in the small town of Cazenovia. She attended college at SUNY (State University of New York) Geneseo in Western New York. In college she competed all four years on the indoor and outdoor track teams, with her main event being the Long Jump. She learned a lot from her coach at Geneseo and hopes to pass that knowledge on to the Green Hope athletes.
Coach Mac currently teaches math at Green Hope and is also an assistant coach with the Cross Country and Womens' Varsity Basketball teams. She serves as a head coach for the Track and Field team, while still working with the jumpers and sprinters, and is looking forward to another great season.
Greg Kavanaugh
Throws
Coach Kavanaugh begins his seventh year as the Throwing coach for Green Hope. Coach K enjoys working with his athletes to achieve perfect technique. Green Hope throwers have experienced great success due to his philosophy that the basics are the keys to a successful throw.
A Special Education teacher during the day, Coach K is an avid read and movie-watcher, as well as an avid judo player. His one-year-old son keeps him on his toes at home.
Richard Spangler
Pole Vault
Now in his second year with the Green Hope Track and Field team, Mr. Richard Spangler is a past Connecticut high school pole vaulting champion. He has taught at the high school level for one year and brings 25 years of non-academic training experience to Green Hope. He resides in Cary and maintains a flexible work schedule, which allows him to work with the vaulters on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and attend most weekend events.
Mr. Spangler employs a variety of techniques to assist the vaulters, including training and conditioning regimes, technical skill development, video recording and analysis and motivational encouragement.
